EMAT Olympics 2024

We were thrilled to be partnering with GB Olympics once again to host our 2024 EMAT Olympics, featuring a range of sporting events plus special guests.

It kicked off in June with our EMAT torch relay, which travelled to each of our schools within the Trust where every pupil completed a mile by walking or running. Thanks to the Mintridge Foundation, we were joined for the torch relay by modern pentathlon silver medallist Heather Fell, hockey gold medallist Shona McCallin MBE and Paralympic archery double gold medallist Danielle Brown MBE who made special appearances throughout the week to meet our pupils and join them for part of the torch relay.

Our Ability Games is a special event for our pupils with additional physical or communication needs and returned to Castle Academy on Wednesday 19th June. Paralympic archery double gold medallist Danielle Brown MBE was back with us to support us on the day.

The main event - our EMAT Olympic Day - took place on Wednesday 26th June at Corby Athletics Stadium where we were honoured to be joined by Olympic gold medal-winning javelin thrower Tessa Sanderson CBE. The day featured EMAT schools plus four schools from the Nene Valley Partnership for a traditional athletics competition for our primary and secondary students.

Our Olympic Day was hosted by Sky Sports presenter Dave Fulton and live streamed throughout the day for parents and carers to watch online. Supporting Dave were our Year 10 student reporters, who commentated on the events and did trackside interviews with our competitors.

As part of the programme of events, we also held a competition for pupils to design their school’s Olympic flag.

The winning designs for each school’s flag were chosen by GB Olympian chair and bronze medal-winning sprinter Joslyn Hoyte-Smith and were printed to be used to cheer on their school team during the Ability Games and Olympic Day.
