Art
“Art should be something that liberates your soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further.” - Keith Haring
The purpose of art and design education is to give pupils the skills to express their vibrant imagination and personality through a more tactile and visual form. Here at Castle, we teach the children the concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express themselves in this more visual form.
Art also provides children with the opportunity to reflect on their work and their emotions, pupils will acquire the skills informed responses to their own work and the work of other artists. Through the learning of art, the children will also be exposed to artists around the world and learn to express their own thoughts and opinions to many different types of artworks.
Art makes a unique contribution to the development of the child.
At Castle Academy, our aim is:
- To use visual language skilfully (for example, line, shape, pattern, colour, texture, form) to express emotions, interpret observations, convey insights, and accentuate their individuality.
- To stimulate children’s creativity and imagination by providing visual, tactile, and sensory experience.
- To help children explore the world at first hand, using all their senses and experimentation, and so gain knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live.
- Communicate fluently in visual and tactile form.
- Draw confidently and adventurously from observation, memory, and imagination.
- Think and act like creative practitioners by using their knowledge and understanding to inform, inspire and interpret ideas, observations, and feelings.
- To reflect on, analyse, and critically evaluate their own work and that of others.
- To enable all children to have access to a varied range of high-quality art experiences.
- To provide an imaginative, innovative, and coordinated art programme which will foster enthusiasm for art and design amongst all the children.
- To foster an enjoyment and appreciation of the visual arts and a knowledge of artists, craftspeople, and designers, through links with the local and wider multicultural community.
- To enhance children’s ability to value the contribution made by artists, craft workers and designers and respond critically and imaginatively to ideas, images, and objects.
Here at Castle Academy, we have an exciting and inspirational art curriculum with opportunities for all our children to take part in amazing activities to develop their creativity and imagination.
