Design and Technology
At Castle Academy, we study Design and Technology every other half term, so each year group covers three topics a year.
Design and Technology develops children’s skills and knowledge in design, structures, mechanisms, electrical control and a range of materials, including food. It encourages children’s creativity and encourages them to think about important issues.
In DT lessons, we develop skills in designing and evaluating. This helps children to begin to understand the world they live in and how the world works, as well as developing real world problem-solving skills. In lessons, we also develop fine motor skills, learning how to build, construct, join and create, and learning important life skills such as sewing and food preparation.
