Caterpillar Pod is a specialist provision within our mainstream school for children who have an EHCP for Communication and Interaction needs. It is a 10-place provision for children aged 4 to 7. The places are allocated by the Local Authority to children with an EHCP who meet the criteria.

Who is eligible for a place in the SEND provisions? 

All children in the SEND provisions will have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). All consultations for a place in the SEND provisions will need to be made through the EHC Team. Please see the full admissions criteria here.

How would a parent find out more about the provision?  

Contact the school office who will speak to the SENCO. The SENCO will be in touch to discuss the child’s needs and will plan next steps. Access the pupil specification and Local Offer here

Is a child on roll in the mainstream provision at Castle or Hardingstone Academy automatically entitled to a place in the SEND provision? 

Children are not automatically entitled to a place within the SEND provision. Requests for a place will need to be made through the EHC Team. 

If a child is given a place in KS1 at Castle Academy will they automatically transfer to the KS2 provision at Hardingstone Academy? 

A child will not automatically transfer from the KS1 provision at Castle Academy to the KS2 provision at Hardingstone Academy. Requests for a place will need to be made through the EHC Team.
