  Bug Club activity 2

Week 2

Activity 1

Complete the reading comprehension. Read the text carefully then answer the questions.

This Week’s comprehension is called ‘Ben the Dinosaur’

Activity 2

It is important to develop a love of books. This week we would like you to spend some time on Bug Club.

We would like you to answer at least 5 quiz questions based on the books you have read, by clicking on the bug symbol.

Don’t forget your teacher’s can see your answers so make sure you think carefully before answering each question. We cannot wait to see your answers!

Bug Club activity 2

Activity 3

You have all been practising spelling the days of the week. Complete the days of the week anagrams by putting the letters back in the correct order to make the words. You can write the word onto the sheet or on a sheet of paper.

If you find this easy, you can complete the challenge and write a sentence containing each day of the week.

Days of the week activity 3

Activity 4

Complete the SpaG activity on capital letters and full stops.

Capital letters are used at the beginning of a sentence, the first letter of a name and for the word ‘I’.

Full stops are used at the end of a sentence. They tell us when to take a breath when reading.

Rewrite the sentences onto the sheet or on a sheet of paper, adding in the missing capital letters and full stops. Remember to use your neatest handwriting.

If you find this easy, you can write a sentence about each of the pictures, using full stops and capital letters accurately.

Activity 5

Look carefully at this picture. You will be using this to help with your writing today.

                                     Picture prompt activity 5

Before you start, discuss these questions with a family member:

  • Who has written the message?
  • Why have they written the message?
  • Can you remember the last 5 times you said ‘thank you’ to someone?
  • What did you say thank you for?
  • What effect does being polite to people have?

Now think of someone who has helped you over the past few weeks. We would like you write them a thank you letter thanking them for this help.

You could include:

  • What are you thanking them for?
  • Why are you thanking them for this?
  • How they made you feel?
  • Why you felt like this?
  • What you are going to do for them?

If you find this tricky then you could make a thankyou card for someone who has helped you and write a sentence in the middle saying why you are thanking them.

Use this features of a letter poster to help you to know how to set out your letter.

Letter toolkit activity 5

This is a checklist for you to help you make sure your writing is the best it can be!

Week 2

Activity 1

In Science we have been looking at the parts of a plant. This week we will move onto looking at what plants need to grow. This should be a recap from Year 1.

We would like you to create a poster showing what Plants need to grow. This can be a mixture of words and pictures. There are links to videos you can watch below to support you

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RXVhiUnTA8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nGrDl5_zrc

Remember to make your poster bright and colourful. It must show clearly what a plant needs to grow!

Parts of a plant activity 1

We would love to see some of your fabulous posters. You can email these to your child’s class teacher- 2PS@castle.emat.uk (Miss Scanlan’s class) or 2IJ@castle.emat.uk (Mrs Johnson’s class). We cannot wait to see your fabulous work!

Activity 2

In Geography we have learnt about the UK countries. We would like you to choose a UK country to research using books or the Internet and make a poster teaching a Year 1 child about your country.

You could include:

  • The name of the country
  • The capital city of the country
  • Any famous places
  • Any special food they eat
  • If they have their own language

Remember to make your poster bright and colourful. Add some pictures as well as words.

Click here to watch a video to support you with this activity.

Activity 3

Last term we celebrated lots of different festivals, such as Bonfire Night, Christmas, Remembrance day and Diwali.

We would like you to choose a festival that you celebrate and write some information about how you celebrate it. You could even include some photos if your grown-ups allow you.

You could write about:

  • What the festival celebrates?
  • How do you celebrate?
  • Do you wear any special clothes?
  • Do you eat any special food?
  • Do you exchange gifts?

Activity 4

We would like you to create a piece of nature art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.

Look through the Andy Goldsworthy PPT.

Think about the following questions:

  • What materials does he use?
  • Where will he find the materials?
  • What shapes do you see?
  • What patterns are there?
  • How did he create these shapes and patterns?

Whilst out in the garden or on a daily walk, we would like you to create a piece of art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. You can use whatever natural materials you want to create your artwork.

We would love to see some of your pictures of your artwork. You can email these to your child’s class teacher- 2PS@castle.emat.uk (Miss Scanlan’s class) or 2IJ@castle.emat.uk (Mrs Johnson’s class). We cannot wait to see your fabulous work!

Activity 5

It is important to think about our own wellbeing as well as other people in our house’s wellbeing at this difficult time. This week we would like you to think about how music can improve our wellbeing.

Complete the wellbeing music sheet. Think about what your favourite song is and who the artist is for this song. Now write this at the top of the page. Next draw a picture and write a sentence saying how this song makes you feel. You can either complete this onto the sheet or on a sheet of paper. Remember to use your neatest writing.

Challenge: Ask a family member what their favourite song is and how this makes them feel. Is this the same as your favourite song? Does it make them feel the same as you? Why might this be?

We would love to see or hear about some of your favourite songs. You can email these to your child’s class teacher- 2PS@castle.emat.uk (Miss Scanlan’s class) or 2IJ@castle.emat.uk (Mrs Johnson’s class). We cannot wait to see what you have done to help someone else!
